Sony Unveils PS5 System and Accessories

PlayStation 5 JUNE 11th AT 1:00PM (PDT) Event

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, Sony held its first-ever conference on the new PlayStation 5 console. Despite E3’s cancellation this year, Sony has remained committed to showing its new console and all the fine games launching with it.

This sneak peek into the new PS5 and the features it will bring, as well as the stellar video game lineup Sony has planned for the next few years, has made the PS5 a seemingly unskippable console for video game fans.

Two Consoles, One New Look

The design of the new PlayStation shocked many viewers, with Sony taking more design risks than ever before. The new console’s white fins curve out from the main black box of the console, giving the console more fan and cooling power than ever before.

While Sony controllers have kept a similar look over the years, the PS5 controller takes a more rounded approach.

Sony also took a new approach to console design by announcing both the traditional PS5 console and the digital console in one go. The digital console has a similar design when compared to the regular one, with the exception of having omitted the disk drive.

This is a bold move for Sony and one that consumers will likely thank them for. With digital sales of PlayStation games having long outdone those of physical games, more consumers may be drawn toward the digital-only console.

Sony’s Sneak Peek at Next-Gen Games

Multiple classic franchises were spotlighted in the PlayStation 5 E3 trailer, as well as some new IP. The PS5 marks the third console generation for GTA 5 since the game’s release in 2013 on PlayStation 3.

Games such as FromSoftware’s ever-popular Demon’s Souls looks to be getting a remake for the console, highlighting some Soulsbourne classic characters.

Other installments in popular Sony series include Hitman III, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil 8, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, NBA 2K21, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and more.

With many of these games being considered must-play installments in popular series among diehard gamers, PS5 has already cemented itself as a must-purchase console for gamers.

New Classics

While Sony made sure to show plenty of recognizable franchises during the conference, hardcore gamers will note that big upcoming games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghosts of Tsushima are slated to release on both PlayStation 4 and PS5.

While neither game was highlighted during the conference, the spotlight shone on some other innovative games coming to the PS5. These games include Bugsnax, GhostWire: Tokyo, Stray, Returnal, DEATHLOOP, and more.

With innovative gameplay and stunning graphics showing off some of the most impressive PS5 capabilities, developers have more and more room to create some stunning games over the course of PS5’s lifetime.

PlayStation 5 Launch

The PS5 is slated for release during the 2020 holiday season. Flagship games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are expected to release alongside the console. With GTA 5 slated to rerelease yet again on the new console, PS5 consumers will also be granted access to GTA 5 online as a thank you from Sony.

Also launching with the console will be the system’s dynamic new 3D sound design, allowing players to feel more and more immersed in the worlds of the games they are playing.

With so many unique choices from Sony shown in the initial conference, gamers can be sure the lifetime of the PS5 console will mark a truly impressive new era of gaming.
