If the sound of playing as an anthropomorphic creature in a post-apocalyptic world appeals to you, look no further than Biomutant. The game offers a third person perspective blended with a solid dose of RPG mechanics. We’re talking stat growth, martial arts, gun and sword play, leveling up and weapon crafting.

Biomutant Visuals

Aside from the cute anthropomorphic character we play as, the game as a lot of charm with its graphics. The game sends the player to all sorts of different venues. A vibrant forest, an underwater level, ruins with rays of light bursting through the torn ceiling and rocky plateaus with a myriad of pretty colors. The game was developed on the Unreal Engine 4, which leads to the excellent attention to detail when it comes to rendering shadows and vibrant colors. There are several nifty stylistics choices that meld into the gameplay. The player can see the damage inflicted on enemies through numbers that pop off them when hit. Another stylistic choice will remind gamers of a comic book. Sounds effects get their own special box of text that’ll occasionally protrude from weapons when reloading or an enemy when injured.

Biomutant Gameplay

Combat is a nifty blend of melee and gun fighting. Depending on the character build, the player will have access to mutant abilities as well. Some levels even have the player pilot mech-suits. Crafting is the main feature to be excited about in the game. There are many opportunities to harvest resources to make new weapons. Find a weapon you don’t like? Scrap it for parts to make a better weapon. The awesome thing about the customization is the weapon choice feeds into a lot of stats. Armor piercing, critical hit chance, fire rate and even reload speed. The player simply picks a base for their weapon and modifies it with addons that determine how well those stats increase. Another nifty feature with crafting is how additional effects can be either applied to the weapon or the player character’s stats. So experimenting with the pickups is highly recommended for a satisfactory gameplay experience. Progression is non-linear, as the game has an open world setup. The world can be traveled through a variety of different modes. We have the standard foot mode, air travel and mech. Another useful feature is ally recruitment. The chosen ally can impact how the story unfolds, as well as unlock additional quests.

Biomutant Story

Humans do not inhabit the world of Biomutant. Everything you encounter will be a creature of some sort. Some are intelligent and ally with the player. Other characters provide quests. The medium used to tell the story is through a narrator. Player choices naturally effect the direction the narrator will go in their oration of the events.

Biomutant Verdict

The developers undoubtedly had a creative vision in mind for this title. RPG mechanics blended with gun play, mutations and martial arts make for a unique, but satisfying experience. Check out Biomutant on Xbox Series X or PS5.

Resident Evil is a series that had its start as a survival horror with a third person perspective. Zombies, killer dogs, strange experiments, a mysterious mansion and an evil corporation served as the main elements of the original game. The series has evolved with the RE Engine, starting with Biohazard, or Resident Evil 7. How does the new game compare to the previous entry? For one, the visuals have improved drastically with lush scenery. A wintery village, a gorgeous castle shrouded in mystery. Did we mention the Lycans? This game has Lycans that want to eat you.

Resident Evil Village Story

The main character, Ethan Winters, has his wife gunned down in front of him and his daughter kidnapped. He wakes up in a crash with a cellphone. His only hint to his daughter’s whereabouts is the strange confirmation given to him by a crazed woman. What we learn is the village seems to have a strange cult surrounding it. With talks of ceremonies and unearthly creatures, the stakes are higher than ever.

Gore Galore in Resident Evil Village

This game is not for the squeamish. Capcom spares no expense with the main character getting some of his fingers bit off early on in the game. One of the scenes in the castle dungeons has the main character running around in a flooded wine cellar. It’s not a wine you’re running splashing through. It’s a poll of blood Ethan dashes through as he tries to survive a grisly assault by the local residents of the castle. The music and atmosphere are both fantastic. Enemies are used effectively for jump scares and seem to crawl out of every nook and cranny. One of the main antagonists, Lady Dimitrescu, provides many of the best scares. She’s a tall woman that flinches off bullets like they’re nothing. Her daughters also serve as mini-bosses that are more than happy to stalk the player throughout the castle.

Resident Evil Village Weapons

The player is given a vast assortment of weapons to deal with a wide variety of enemies. There is the obligatory knife that has been a long-time staple within the Resident Evil series. Ethan is also given a basic handgun, shotgun, various explosives, and a sniper rifle among other weapons. Another nice feature of Resident Evil Village is the RPG mechanics. Some of the enemies will drop items and money that Ethan can use to upgrade his arsenal or purchase much-needed ammunition.

Verdict on Resident Evil Village

With creative puzzles, dangerous encounters, immersive music, and fantastic visuals, Resident Evil Village does not disappoint. There is plenty of aftergame content to keep players engaged. Unlockable weapons, challenge modes, and an online mode, the game proves itself as another awesome entry in the franchise.
