Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok Review

Dawn of Ragnarok is the newest expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but did UbiSoft slack off, tread water or score a home run with this final leg? Keep reading to find out.

Dawn of Ragnarok Overview

dawn of ragnarok ac valhalla AC: Valhalla has several dreamworlds that help cement the franchise’s shift to historical fantasy. Dawn of Ragnarok has you taking to Svartalfheim as Odin finally shows up to deal with the Muspels for having kidnapped Baldr. This is an expansion that continues the mythological exploration provided by Asgard and Jotunheim in previous excursions. To be clear, this expansion has you playing as Odin for large portions and with a completely different cluster of systems, gear and abilities to sell that sort of power. This is the perfect elevation from the powers you enjoy in Valhalla’s endgame. This expansion is intended for endgame users and it should not be started until the player has gotten the hang of Valhalla and finished its main quest. However, if you must, it does offer a recap of the Asgard and Jotunheim storylines and will even level you up to survivability if desired.

Dawn of Ragnarok DLC Gameplay

For the most part, this is a stand-alone game where Odin hunts for Baldr. Sadly, Baldr is just a macguffin with little to sell the Odin-Baldr bond outside of exposition and text. The bulk of your time is spent dealing with dwarves, Jotuns and Muspels. As you play Odin and tend to dwarven refugees, you get a real sense of his character in service to his two goals: stop Ragnarok and find Baldr. You get some time with Eivor in Britain, where she is re-experiencing Odin’s memories through magic. Fortunately, you can jump back and forth between Eivor and Odin’s campaigns. If nothing else, coming back to Odin after playing as Eivor is a sobering reminder of Odin’s greater power if only because of his “Hugr-rip,” a trinket allowing you to play with fire, rebirth, teleportation and flight. The Hugr-rip requires fuel from a meter and refilling the meter requires combat, hunting or certain flowers. There are several fiery monoliths you can fly up to that yield enemies and useful upgrade items but you can also get punted off them, falling a good half-minute before impact. This happened to me and I was thankful for the new “Divine” gear that negates fall damage.

The Verdict on Dawn of Ragnarok

dawn of ragnarok giant While the main campaign is a solid 15 hours, there is plenty to add even more hours like rescues, defeating alphas and certain world events. Diehard fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that this expansion has some new Isu lore.
  • Now for the drawbacks and oddities.
  • Raiding is back, albeit with Eivor’s old crew for some reason.
  • There’s a new gear arena that tries to spice up grinding with modifiers.
  • The ending is more “thud” than proper closure.
Overall, this is an alright expansion with plenty of Norse mythology to soak in. When taken as a whole and as an extension of Valhalla’s storyline, this is hardly a regrettable purchase.

Elden Ring Review

In the last few years, open-world games like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” have set high hopes and expectations for the future of fantasy gaming. While Hyrule is still a beautiful place to lose track of time, fans have been craving more since its 2017 release. Enter “Elden Ring,” a game that combines the mechanics of the renowned series of “Dark Souls” and the near-endless exploration of “Breath of the Wild” to make something that both long-term fantasy fanatics and newcomers will love.

Elden Ring Character Overview

elden ring review Players begin their epic journey by creating their own custom character. You have 10 classes to choose from, which includes:
  • Hero
  • Bandit
  • Vagabond
  • Astrologer
  • Warrior
  • Prisoner
  • Confessor
  • Prophet
  • Samurai
  • Wretch
Each of these classes come with their own unique strengths and stat layout. Hero is the standard class with high Strength, Vigor, and Endurance making them a solid choice for new players. The Samurai is not only stylish, but comes with a boost in their Dexterity. Dexterity is a stat that lets you better wield weapons such as a katana, dagger, and flail. This stat also reduces the damage you take from falling while making it more difficult for enemies to knock you off Torrent, your spectral steed. If you’re someone who wants to shape their character, then you’re going to love playing as the Wretch. The Wretch is the blank slate character in this game. Every stat is set to 10, so you have free reign in deciding what stat gets boosted more. There are plenty of options to choose from when creating your character, like choosing between a Numen and a Draconian to picking a Keepsake that makes a specific action easier.

Elden Ring Gameplay

elden ring fight Once you’ve created your character, the story begins with the fabled Elden Ring being destroyed. Your character will traverse “Game of Thrones” creator George R. R. Martin’s new world, which is known as the Lands Between. Tarnished are individuals who have seemingly lost the blessing of the Erdtree, which resulted in their banishment from the Lands Between. But since the ring was shattered, the Tarnished are guided back to the Lands Between because of lost grace. The Lands Between is vast with tons of exploration, challenging bosses to overcome and dungeons to crawl. Even the first area can take you hours to explore. Something else that makes this game so intuitive is that if you’re stuck on an area or boss, the game doesn’t lock you into it. You can go do something else until you’re prepared. The combat in this game functions similarly to “Dark Souls”. You can equip one-handed or two-handed weapons, cast magic and defend yourself with shields. If you’re familiar with “Dark Souls 3”, you might recall the inclusion of weapon arts. In this game, they make a return under the guise of Ashes of War. They’re add-ons you equip to a weapon to make it more effective in combat. They can scale your damage output, add an element to it, and give it a unique skill. If there’s a boss you’re having trouble with, Ashes of War can give you a serious edge. You can also dungeon crawl and take on difficult bosses alongside your friends with the implementation of multiplayer. Or you can treat them like every other enemy, and destroy them in PvP. Just make sure you have the appropriate Fingers first.

The Verdict on Elden Ring

Elden Ring” is a game that has surpassed many expectations. By combining in-depth exploration of an open world with fun and thrilling combat, you’ll find yourself spending hours trying to discover everything the Lands Between has to offer.

Horizon Forbidden West Review

0
Whenever a sequel comes out for a game, the players expect it to build upon what made it succeed. Albeit the characters, the gameplay mechanics, and the world it takes place in. After nearly countless hours of exploring, crafting and fighting our way through various threats, we can safely say Horizon Forbidden West has succeeded its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn. 2022 anticipated games Forbidden West

Overview

When players boot up this game up for the first time, they’ll be placed in the shoes of Aloy, a member of the Nora Tribe, once again. Forbidden West takes place about six months after the events of the first game. An unknown plague known as the “red blight” has surfaced and is killing everything it infects. Aloy takes it upon herself, as well as some new companions, to venture out to the Forbidden West and find the source of it.

Gameplay

Many gameplay elements of Zero Dawn, like the Focus and overriding hostile machine animals, and crafting return in Forbidden West along with a few new additions. One of the most notable additions is the ability to now ride on flying machines, which gives you a bird’s eye view of the vast and scenic world. Throughout your journey, you can expect to encounter 43 types of machines with 22 of them being brand new additions to the roster. Some of the new additions include the Burrower, a quadrupedal machine based on an otter and Slaughterspine, a massive Spinosaurus-like machine that attacks with plasma shockwaves. Joining these dangerous new mechanoids are enemies you’ve encountered in Zero Dawn, like Behemoths, Frostclaws and Thunderjaws. Since exploration is a major component, fans of the series will be thrilled to know there’s more to discover than there was in the first game. Players can now go explore under the lakes, rivers and seas they come across. In fact, the map itself is bigger than it previously was. Horizon Zero Dawn’s map was around four miles long. Forbidden West’s map is about five miles long, so exploring everything will take some time. The combat system is also more innovative and polished in Forbidden West. There’s a new feature called Valor Surge, which are temporary abilities granted once a player has unlocked all the surrounding skills. Each surge is different as they’re all designed to fit a certain playstyle. If you want to have a more stealth-oriented experience, Stealth Stalker is the way to go. Feel like you’re taking too much damage? Then, the Overshield will soak it up for you. The combat is a lot more diverse this time around, so take your time with it and find which play style best suits you. 2022 anticipated games Forbidden West

The Takeaway

Horizon Forbidden West improves upon the old while not completely overshadowing it. Everything you loved in the first game is back and better than ever. Compelling characters, breathtaking areas, frightening enemies, in-depth storyline, and an enthralling soundtrack, Horizon Forbidden West is a game you definitely want to add to your collection!

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Review

Diving into a new Pokémon game is always a journey, one filled with surprises, doubts, hopes and plenty of unexpected twists and turns. When Gamefreak first announced their latest title, “Pokémon Legends: Arceus“, fans were a bit hesitant, to say the least. And it’s easy to understand why. Never before has there been such a dynamic and open-ended Pokémon game. Players have never been given the complete freedom and reign over their environment with the ability to explore and shape their own Pokémon adventure to such detail. This is the most ambitious Pokémon game to date. The sprawling open world of Hisui awaits, but does it live up to expectations?

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Overview

pokemon legends arceus battle We’ll say it. This is one of the best games released in the last decade, and it’s definitely one of the best Pokémon games to ever grace the franchise. Despite the doubts its semi-rough beta trailer created, the final product doesn’t fall short of incredible. If you’ve played “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, or you’re a fan of open-world games in general, then “Pokémon Legends: Arceus” is the perfect introduction to the series. Past titles followed a similar formula; you had eight gym leaders to defeat, an evil organization to take down, and, finally, a Champion to battle. It’s a whole new world in “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”. The game begins with you finding yourself stranded in the vast Hisui region filled with wild and aggressive Pokémon. You join the Galaxy Team as a member of the Survey Corps to uncover the never-ending mystery of Pokémon What starts off as simple survey work eventually turns into a legendary tale and sheds light on the history of the Sinnoh Region.

The Mechanics

pokemon legends arceus headquaters The premise of the game remains the same — catching them all. However, the mechanics of the game take this to a whole new level. Rather than run around in the tall grass hoping for a certain Pokémon to appear, they completely swarm the overworld. Speaking of the tall grass, it has now become a useful tool for observing, sneaking and reducing potential aggro. You can even shift their attention by throwing a berry or stunning them with a Spoiled Apricord for a much easier catch. The Alpha Pokémon you can encounter coin the phrase “size does matter.” Be sure to be on the lookout for the space-time distortions to encounter Pokémon you wouldn’t see normally. Pokémon Legends is a game that redefines the entire franchise. Run around, explore, sneak or battle your way to complete the region’s first-ever Pokédex. Embrace the beautiful and diverse lands of Hisui, and become attached to a whole cast of colorful characters such as Professor Laventon, Rei/Akari and the obvious ancestor to Professor Rowan, Commander Kamado.

Final Verdict

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a fantastic addition to the franchise. Old time fans will fall in love all over again, and newcomers will experience the best possible introduction to the world of Pokémon. On top of that, the game’s beautiful art style, charming characters and fluid controls make it a solid addition to any gamer’s collection.

While there’s almost an endless amount of anime to watch, none has captured the hearts over the past year more than “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba”. This series originated as a manga back during February 15th, 2016 and ended on May 18th, 2020 at 23 volumes. But before the manga ended, “Demon Slayer” got an anime adaptation on April 6th, 2019. WARNING: If you’re not one for darker stories or anything with dark aspects, you might want to keep scrolling. “Demon Slayer” does have a gritty tone. The story begins with the character Tanjiro Kamado, a boy who lives in the mountains with his family, notably his sister, Nezuko Kamado. However, things take a drastic turn for the worst when Tanjiro returns to find his entire family slaughtered by a demon named Muzan and his sister turned into one herself. With the help of police chief Jim Hopper, they discover that the Hawkins National Laboratory isn’t all it seems to be. Meanwhile, a young girl with telekinesis with the elusive name Eleven escapes from the labs and joins the cast. The fourth season is set to air sometime this year, which will ultimately conclude one of the most popular shows of the last decade.

PlayStation VR2 Coming for PS5

0
The year 2022 may have just started, but gaming will never end; it’s only going to get better from here on out. Our friends at Sony Interactive Entertainment are already on the ball with their recent addition to the PlayStation family: The PlayStation VR2 for the PlayStation 5!

What’s In Store

On October 13, 2016, PlayStation released its first iteration of VR gaming. The PlayStation VR revolutionized gaming in ways that were once thought impossible. For the past six years, however, people have been grabbing their controllers and equipping their VR headsets to jump right into the game itself. The PlayStation VR2 for the PS5 improves upon the features of its predecessor while bringing new depth to the world of virtual reality gaming. The PSVR was capable of outputting an impressive resolution of 960×1080, but the PSVR2 takes it a few steps further with a resolution of 2000×2400 within each eye! Accompanying this is a 4K high-dynamic range (HDR), a 110-degree field of view (FOV) and foveated rendering. If you’re new to the world of VR gaming, foveated rendering is a special technique that uses an eye-tracking system to make things easier to render. This makes fast-paced games, like Beat Saber and Sniper Elite VR, run a lot smoother.

How the PSVR2 Will Differ From the PSVR

The PSVR2 not only tracks your movement, it also tracks your controller’s movements as well. Thanks to the new tracking mechanics of the integrated cameras within the headset, the player’s movements are smoothly reflected in-game. This means using an external camera to track movement is no longer required. It wouldn’t be a VR game if you weren’t able to fully immerse every inch of yourself into it. The implementation of headset feedback can make you feel as if you’re truly the main protagonist. According to PlayStation themselves, you’ll even be able to feel a character’s elevated pulse in tense situations.

Looking Ahead

Something we need to bring up is whether or not the PSVR2 is wireless as that used to be a common complaint. The first PSVR required extensive wiring, which could quickly become cumbersome. While the PSVR2 isn’t totally wireless, it only comes with one wire from the headset. All you need to do is plug it into your PS5, which is then plugged into the headset via a USB port. There’s no exact release date as of yet, but the product is set to release sometime in 2022. All we have to do is be a little bit more patient, and we’ll be able to experience VR gaming like never before!

With the undisclosed information about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla update, Ubisoft has released the worldwide trailer for the new DLC, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok.

First Reaction to news of an Update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

With the trailer launching, all we can think is, do I need to get the assassins creed main game completed in order to play the Dawn of Ragnarok? And how long will it take to fully get back to fighting fit to play like I did when the game is released.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok Trailer

Starts Before the Fall As the world ends All around Odin

Knowing what is to come has got to be like a watched pot for Odin. The Trailer opens up with a peaceful setting that begins to crumble all around Valhalla. As Odin battles those around him, he begins absorbing an enemy into himself. dawn of ragnarok peaceful

From the trailer we can only get that Odin will have the power to absorb ice foes to attack with ice powers. And attack fire foes for Fire powers. dawn of ragnarok ice absorbed Odin then draws and charges a bow with what looks like ice force back at a fire enemy shooting fire at him. dawn of ragnarok ice shot Then he attacks and absorbs a fire foe. dawn of ragnarok fire power Odin then charges his weapons with fire force as he approaches the boss foe a fire giant. dawn of ragnarok fire power battle

New Boss to Defeat

In the original gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Odin or havi fight with an ice giant after he steals mead from the vault. In this trailer , it seems like a completely different interaction. Less relying on past skills and focused more on new powers. This fire giant also appears to be a much greater foe from the first giant battles. dawn of ragnarok giant If element fighting is any, it may be that you will need both powers to block and damage the boss foe. Time will tell.

Verdict on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok for PS5

dawn of ragnarok revenge All in, with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok. This latest DLC has the thrill of a new PS5 game launch. Tribes of Midgard Season 2: Serpent Saga Starts December 14

0

Tribes of Midgard Season 2: Serpent Saga New Breaks

After 100 hours of Tribes of Midgard, it is exciting to hear that season 2 is starting up with new features, areas, bosses, and abilities for gameplay. Tribes of Midgard Season 2: The Serpent Saga is launching on Tuesday, December 14 on PlayStation 5, and is free to all players who already own the game. The current season 1 of tribes of Midgard is a world-based challenge that starts with you attempting to craft up weapons, working within your tribe to explore and conquer every area on the map. With night battles and Jotunn giant trying to destroy your seed of Yggdrasil.

New Players to Tribes of Midgard

One piece of advice that I have for every person I suggest to play, make sure you have at least an hour. In season 1, crafting, building, fighting, protecting the village, and fighting Jo is a long process that you get lost in. You will not notice until an hour goes by that you have been playing for this long. The newest updates to Tribes of Midgard will make gameplay a lot better as they correct elements missing from season 1. The newest features include Boating, swimming, and the Saga 2 boss.

Season 2 allows Viking to Swim

tribes of midgard season 2 swimming Swimming hands down is the ability they are giving the Vikings. I cannot stress how many times I had to decide on whether or not to completely abandon my chest after falling off a cliff into the ocean from dodging an enemy attack. Now, instead of the sad acknowledgment of a lost chest, I’ll be able to retrieve my lost chest on a cliff. Wait, what happens if you cannot make it to shore and you drown? Do you lose your gear when you drown? Well, it will be worth finding out in gameplay.

What Boating means to Tribe of Midgardtribes of midgard season 2 boats

Resources may be required from Day 1, to ensure developing a boat as the days continue. Current screenshots show a design element in boat crafting. I am sure like with clothing selections, boats will have a preset element to them. Another thought is, will boats automatically come to you, or if you abandon ship, will you have to travel back to your boat no matter where you left it? Another thought is, will you be able to teleport to your boat from your village?

Ocean Trails and Bosses

With the ability to build and operate a boat in the Tribes of Midgard, we will be able to explore vast lands and obstacles where the ocean is required. If the mythology holds out, we may face snake-like monsters on the water, giants who freeze the ocean to cross it, and more. There is also a possibility of discovering small island installations with treasure or a hord sea monsters to defeat for treasure.

New Saga Bosses

tribes of midgard season 2 attacks The open ocean is vast and endless as are the mythical beasts that inhabit it. The new saga bosses may have an element of water that could manifest in the center of the map’s ocean. Getting there may be the only way to defeat the saga boss in season 2. It has been said that they will keep the saga boss Fenrir. Meaning you planning to attack saga bosses could come down to going to one before the other. It may also be that Fenrir will be easier to defeat in season 2 as the level for the season 2 saga boss would have to be higher. Other addons to Tribes of Midgard Season 2: The Serpent Saga include that will now have 40 of Runes for use in gameplay as well as the expected new gifts and pets within the Yule of Yggdrasil seasonal yulidays.
